Questions we hear most
No. Cutting hair at the surface does not change its thickness, color or growth rate. A cut end may feel different as it grows out. Dermaplaning is temporary peach-fuzz removal; new or changing coarse facial hair deserves a separate assessment.
Active acne, open skin and rosacea or eczema flares can make dermaplaning unsuitable. Sensitivity, medicines and recent treatments need assessment before exfoliation. Pregnancy does not remove the need to review the skin and any products used.
Dermaplaning uses a sterile blade to remove fine facial hair and surface cells. Ordinary shaving mainly trims hair; a chemical peel uses a solution to exfoliate. Combining treatments is not automatic and should depend on a skin assessment.
Surface smoothness changes as skin sheds and hair regrows, so there is no fixed result duration. Repeat treatment should follow your skin’s recovery, routine and other procedures rather than a universal schedule.
Scraping sensations, redness or sensitivity can occur; it is not guaranteed to be painless. Follow your provider’s advice on makeup, exercise and restarting retinoids or acids. Do not add more exfoliation or shave irritated skin while it settles.
